Why is this study important?
Cerebral vein thrombosis (CVT) is a rare form of stroke that occurs 3 times more often in females. It includes thrombosis of the cerebral veins and dural sinuses that can propagate if untreated. CVT is associated with a high recurrence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) within the following year of diagnosis. Conversely, CVT also can be accompanied by intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). These combined factors complicate the management and justify asking whether the benefits of anticoagulation outweigh the risks, and if so, which anticoagulant is best.
Which, if any, threats to validity are most likely to have an impact on the results and how?
