Why is this study important?
Why is this guideline and at least some of its recommendations important? This document updates the 2010 American Thoracic Society and Infectious Diseases Society of America Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG), focussing on questions of diagnosis, high-yield testing, appropriate antibiotic choices, and follow-up chest xray (CXR) testing for community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). This CPG contains a number of recommendations that are directly (and some indirectly) relevant to emergency department (ED) care. Also, some important recommendations against low-yield diagnostic testing are updated, and an updated evidence-based antibiogram is provided.
