Why is this study important?
Bag-mask ventilation (BMV) of critically ill patients following rapid sequence induction (RSI) is intended to prevent hypoxemia prior to endotracheal intubation (ETI). However, BMV also carries a risk of aspiration, which itself could cause peri-intubation hypoxia. This trial examines whether BMV is more effective in preventing hypoxemia than not providing BMV.
Which, if any, threats to validity are most likely to have an impact on the results and how?
