Why is this study important?

The greatest diagnostic challenge of pediatric emergency medicine is to identify young infants that have invasive bacterial infections (IBI). It is worthwhile trying to validate any tools that will assist the clinician in this process. The authors of this multi-center trial attempt to identify patients with positive blood culture or cerebrospinal fluid to establish low risk criteria.
