What is the risk of a motor vehicle accident within 2 years of a first-time syncope?

BEEM Bottom Line

Why is this study important?

True estimates of motor vehicle accident or collision (MVC) risk after syncope are unknown. This is the first study to report the association between syncope and subsequent MVC risk using the Danish national health database. MVCs are the greatest personal and public health risk following first-time syncope. Risk estimates based on relatively small studies range from 1 to 10% depending on definitions.

Which, if any, threats to validity are most likely to have an impact on the results and how?
